The 2022 E-commerce Report recently presented by the E-commerce and Distance Selling Federation (Fevad) highlights a sustained growth in online purchases made by professionals over the past year. Indeed, the figures show an increase of 9.9% compared to the previous year. If we go back a little further in time, the increase is even more spectacular, reaching 41% compared to 2019, after the years 2020 and 2021 had seen strong growth despite the pandemic.

This is not the only salient fact revealed by the report. For all merchant sites, whether intended for professional buyers or the general public, sales generated nearly €147 billion in sales in France, an increase of 13.8% compared to the previous year. However, purchases of products fell by 7% year-on-year, while purchases of services such as transportation, travel, etc., jumped by 36%.

In addition, Fevad indicates that sales on behalf of third parties on marketplaces saw a slight decrease compared to the previous year (-1.6%), but increased by 30% compared to 2019. This demonstrates the continued growth of the online platform economy, which allows third-party sellers to reach a wider audience through the increased visibility offered by marketplaces.

Finally, the report also shows that mobile sales continue to grow, registering an 8% increase over the previous year. This confirms the importance of companies adapting to the buying habits of consumers, who are increasingly inclined to shop on mobile devices.

Overall, these results reflect the growing importance of e-commerce in the French economy and the need for companies to adapt to consumers' ever-changing shopping habits. The Fevad report suggests that this trend will only strengthen in the coming years, highlighting the importance of investing in digital transformation for businesses of all sizes.
